Why we built
an opponent.
Most AI is optimized to please you. That feels good — and quietly makes you worse at thinking.
Spar With AI started from a single observation: a model that always agrees can't sharpen anyone. Sycophancy is comfortable, and comfort is the enemy of a tested idea.
The research on this is consistent. Models trained on human feedback learn that validation feels good to the rater, so they produce more of it — even when it's wrong. The result is a generation of AI tools that affirm your priors, fill in your conclusion, and never push back. They are assistants optimized for comfort, not growth.
So we built the opposite. Six opponents, each engineered to find the weak joint in an argument and lean on it. No flattery, no easy wins — just sustained, intelligent pressure, followed by an honest read on how you held up.
It's a tool for founders pressure-testing pitches, writers and researchers sharpening arguments, and students who'd rather find the hole in their thinking here than in a boardroom, a manuscript, or an exam.
